Restaurant Review: |
I found Brix restaurant to be a nice
dining experience. I enjoyed my meal very much. I did feel a
little bit like it was more expensive than it should be for
what I ate, so wouldn't give it top marks. I do enjoy a good
meal and am not above spending a lot of money for the fine
dining experience, but I didn't feel that Brix quite made
it. It was good, but not that good for the cost. So, if you
want good food and don't care about the cost, then this is a
nice place to go. If, on the other hand, you are either
concerned about the cost or want a higher level of food for
the money, then I suggest you look towards The Cottage Place
or Josephine's. I felt both of those where just a bit
better. |

Alvin's is a really nice place to eat.
The place is fairly casual so most Flagstaff residents will
feel comfortable there. It doesn't require you to get
dressed up or anything. But, the food is more of a
Fine Dining experience. The meals are all unique
presentations, but aren't so unusual that you will have to
ask what it is. I've eaten there a few times and I
like their Mushroom Chicken dish the best! The cost is
a bit high, but not unreasonable at all for what they are
serving. The Sunday Brunch is a bit pricey, but really
good. My kids especially like the Chocolate Fountain.
I recommend you give Alvin's a try! |

Wow. That says it. If you
are looking for a place with really good meals, then I
recommend you check out Josephine's. The restaurant is
in a historic house and so the atmosphere is really neat.
During the summer you can also sit outside although it's
right next to the road, so it isn't as romantic as inside.
The service is great and the food is really tasty.
It's not cheap to eat here so be prepared. They have
most meals "a la cart" so you order each thing separately
(i.e. salad, soup, main meal choice, etc...). Other
gourmet places put it all together, so it's a choice to what
you like. If you like the full course meal than The
Cottage Place beats this, but otherwise it's really close as
to which one I like better. |

Restaurant Review: |
Had Flagstaff's #1 B&B make
reservations for our 45th anniversary early on a Wed. eve.
They gave us a table by the kitchen next to the tray where
they stacked dirty dishes. The owner offered another table -
where they also stacked dirty dishes. Fine dining and dirty
dishes stacked next to diners is an oxymoron. Bread and
dessert were good. Service was attentive. I had duck in
mango sauce. Sauce was overwhelming; duck was done right but
tasteless. My wife had the salmon; fish was good and done
right. The sauce and accompaniment also overwhelming. We
will not go back.

I've been to Josephine's over the past
few years and have NEVER been disappointed. A unique menu
and all of the items are EXCELLENT; shoot they can even turn
a hamburger into a culinary treat (ya gotta try the
Flagstaff burger). Very pleasant wait staff and a cozy
comfortable setting. Go try it, you will be glad you did!

Slow service, bad food, tacky. Spoiled wine, no bread served
until entrees, water with no ice and no one asking to refill, dry prosciutto, overcooked asparagus, dry shrimp cocktail with sauce from a jar,
Saturday Night Live type lounge singer, pounding dance music heard from reception next
door. Lime and garlic mashed potatoes were totally tasteless, and had not one hint of
either garlic nor lime. That's probably a good thing since lime and garlic are a
ridiculous flavor combination, as well as is salmon with
mango. Also, the prime rib was not hot, and the broccoli overcooked.

If your looking for something different than typical run of the mill dishes you should check out
Jackson's, they have some really unique dishes. Although there are some negative reviews of the restaurant on this post, it has
recently changed management & head chefs which has resulted in a huge improvement.
Every time I've eaten there over the past 6 months it has been consistently outstanding. I
definitely recommend this restaurant over anything else in Flagstaff.

In spite of hosting our wedding rehearsal dinner at

noisy beginning, having to hold our dinner in the lounge area, but everything worked out and John Collins worked hard to see that we had a happy event.

This little gem just opened last year, and it has become our favorite! The salads are always crisp and
fresh (my favorite is the Caesar) and they have great specials each day. My husband says their top sirloin is as good as any filet mignon
he's had elsewhere. We love the cozy atmosphere and the best view in Flagstaff.
Jotini's is located in the clubhouse at Continental Country Club.

As natives of Flagstaff, we wanted to
celebrate a birthday with a small intimate dinner. We were
disappointed in the wait staff. Our waiter was absent and we
were left waiting very often. We happened to have a discount
coupon from the Flag Live newspaper and our waiter took the
coupon and then neglected to use it. We didn't realize this
until we left. Overall we were disappointed with the service
at Jackson's Grill. We'll go to Busters next time!

I have lived all over, and eaten (and sometimes worked) in some of the best restaurants in America, and Cottage Place ranks up there with the best of them. I am always a bit surprised by people who complain about the price of a three course meal (especially considering the filet at CP is Prime aged beef): $30 is a bargain, and I have to wonder where these
people eat normally!? I would take any review by someone who complains of price with a grain of salt--you pay for what you get for, and with CP (where I know they have the bread baked fresh every day) you definitely
don't get what a prior reviewer called, "stale
food" Anyone who knows cuisine, knows CP is top notch!

I have eaten at Brandy's for breakfast and lunch for years, but finally went there for dinner. The food, service, and price were great! I am so impressed with the quality that I have recommended it to all my friends, and have already returned. And the desserts are to DIE for. The only downside might be that the selection is somewhat limited. I highly recommend giving
Brandy's a try for dinner! I'll be there.

My wife and I recently went to one of our favorite places, the Cottage Place. As always it was a most pleasant experience. The meal was as always simply marvelous and though we saw some people becoming
fidgety due to what they felt was slow service, we knew that the wait staff allowed guests to have to time to enjoy conversation between courses. The prices are well with in line for the experience and we will continue to have them high on our list of fine dining.

Restaurant Review: |
After reading all the great reviews,
my wife took me to the Cottage Place for my birthday. It's a
really cool old house converted to a restaurant with loads of charm. The setting is fantastic, but the food was absolutely disgusting! I felt ill to my stomach after we left. The food was less than fresh, and so was the service. We waited forever to be served. The worst part was that the cost was outrageous. This place puts a high premium on stale and aged food served by a wait staff that borders on being flat out rude. I sent a letter of complaint to the owner and never received a response. Pay no mind to those
propaganda reviews posted here that claim that the Cottage Place is the best place to eat in Northern Arizona. This place will pick your pocket in the ruse of fine dining, and should be avoided at all cost.

Restaurant Review: |
We had eaten at Jackson's Grill last year for our Anniversary and thought it was wonderful.
We tried a repeat performance this year but, alas, the new Chef left a lot to be desired. The
salad was okay: the pizza ordered by my husband wasn't any better than EatAPizza; and my
entree--a shrimp noodle dish was good but not great. And the price tag of over $50 for one
salad to share, a pizza and a shrimp/pasta special was steep for mediocre food. Next year,
we'll try some place else for our Anniversary celebration.

This was my third visit to the Cottage in the hope that it would live up to its reputation.
Although, the wine was excellent, the bread was stale, the service was weak, the soup was cold,
the salad was wilted, the portions were stingy, the desert was frozen, and the cost was
snobbishly overpriced. Overall a bad restaurant experience.

Every once in a while I really get a
craving for seafood. Up here in Flagstaff, there
really aren't very many choices. So, Red Lobster
usually pops to mind. And, when I'm done I still wish
that I could satisfy my craving for seafood. Now, I
must say that I've never had a bad meal there. It's
always simply "ok". But, they pour on wayyy
to much butter and it's simply not the freshest I've ever
had. Not to mention that it isn't cheap at all.
So, I give them an average mark.

I was so excited to see Jackson's grill got a new chef. So
I decided to go and check it out. I was greeted with smiles and seated right away. The wine list is awesome, and the food has been

a restaurant in town that serves great food. I recommend this place to everyone. It was such a
great experience that I hope you all can enjoy it.

Restaurant Review: |
Took the family (10) on the recommendation of a staff person at Lowell. It was extraordinary.
The salmon, the ribeye, the duck, the salads. All first rate. The service was good but lagged
a little at the end of the meal. The desserts were a unique pecan pie, an extraordinary
chocolate cake and an apple crumble type presentation with homemade maple ice cream. Each
family member (all adults) thought the food was representative of the best fine dining
experiences they've had. Not inexpensive but we thought
"well worth it." Although none of us live in Flagstaff (Orange County LA and Scottsdale) we all agreed this restaurant rates
another visit when we're in town.

raspberry sauce on our dessert was burnt!

My fiancée and I have been driving down from Los Angeles to Flagstaff for years, on several
occasions simply to eat at the Cottage Place. One Thanksgiving, we were lucky enough to
stumble onto the restaurant's last reservation of the night, and we have been coming back
ever since. Whenever we are traveling anywhere even within a
day's drive, the Cottage Place is a non-negotiable stop for us. The food and the outstanding service are simply
unparalleled. Frank's culinary creations are just outstanding, and we tell anyone and
everyone about this gem of a restaurant. The food rivals any that we have ever had, in this
country or abroad, and we couldn't love it any more.

In the fall of '03, my wife and I had a great dining experience there. It was the halibut in
a chipotle sauce, or something similar, that was perfectly cooked and well balanced and
delicious. However, the last time I was there in May '04 it was intolerable. My swordfish
was super dry, and the accompanying sauce and polenta were actually inedible. I have had
better meals at Denny's or Red Lobster. I don't think I'll ever go back.

Restaurant Review: |
We ate at the Rack and Bull in February 2003 and it was Absolutely Awesome food! I could not
believe that there was a chef of this caliber in a small town outside Flagstaff. I thought he
belonged in a large Metropolitan area where more people could appreciate the
chef's talents. I thought everything was wonderful except for one thing. Neither my husband nor I are smokers and
the bar was not closed off from the dining area. I don't know if the ventilation
didn't work well or what, but the place reeked of cigarette smoke and so did we by the time we had finished
dining. I think I would have given the food and atmosphere at the Rack and Bull a 10 if it
wasn't for the cigarette smoke. And for having such great food and service, the smoke really
diminished the quality of the experience. If you smoke I
don't think you'll mind in the least and will probably have a great time. I would go back to this restaurant again if it
wasn't for the smoke because the food and service was truly great. But unless they change the set up for
the smoking area in some way, I don't think we will :(

Logged on to this site to see where to eat and decided that
Jackson's sounded like the place to be (read three outstanding recommendations). Was not impressed--the atmosphere feels like a
hotel restaurant--acoustics are terrible and the atmosphere uninspired. This is considered
fine dining, when they don't even have table cloths? The food was unremarkable but decent. I
won't name names (Cottage Place and Josephine's) ha ha, but there are two awesome
restaurants in this town that are of better value.

Restaurant Review: |
Our dinner at Jackson Grill was very disappointing. Not much good to say about the place. The
anticipated view of the meadow with the llamas was only available sitting on a patio where the
wait people must have forgotten about us. The flies and the smell of the live animals were
forgotten when we started to stress about the slow service and poor food. Although our waiter
was engaging he only increased our disappointment by talking up the restaurant. Only after we
complained about the food did he tell us there had been recent problems with the kitchen,
especially on the weekends.

Restaurant Review: |
Over the past Christmas Holidays, my mother, daughter, granddaughter, and I dined at Jackson Grill on a Saturday afternoon for lunch. Although the
restaurant has been open for some time now, I had not gotten around to checking it out. We had a wonderful lunch! Everything was EXCELLENT, starting with the service which was impeccable. This is a very adult oriented atmosphere, however, they did have a very nice children's menu. Our meals were beautifully presented and tasted as good as they looked. Lunch was very reasonable and the portions were actually quite generous. The view from the windows all around was lovely (there was snow on the landscape) and the background music was just that. . .in the background; audible if you listened, but not too loud to converse over. I am anxious to return for dinner soon, maybe Valentine's Day! This is
truly one of the finest restaurants in Northern Arizona. I would especially recommend it for a lovely and reasonable lunch.

I completely enjoyed my meal. The food was very good, the service was fine, and the atmosphere was adequate. The Horsemen's Lodge has that real rustic, cowboy feel. The place has lots of pictures and memorabilia on horseback riding, and is adorned with lots of animals that have been stuffed and mounted on the walls. As for the food, they start you off with bread and a salad/soup cart. Then, you have the main course. I had shrimp scampi that was amazingly good. MMMM... This is a fine dining experience that is not super-classy. Jeans and a t-shirt will be fine. And, feel free to bring the kids...

Seven members of my family and I ate at Jackson's restaurant for the first time and were very pleased. If was apparent there was a chef. The bisque soup was a favorite of everyone. The service was perfect. I especially liked the jazz background music being a jazz guitarist myself. I would recommend
Jackson's for anyone wanting a fine dining experience.

Restaurant Review: |
At the last minute, my wife and I decided to go to the restaurant at Little America for Christmas Dinner. I had never eaten there before, but I had been told that it was very nice. As it turned out it was very good. Each course of the meal was very tasty and I was completely full by the time we finished. The soup was truly a highlight of the meal, and my main course of Mandarin Orange Glazed Ham was very good. The salad at the beginning of the meal had a little to be desired, but otherwise I can't complain. The service was adequate and each course came out timed very nicely. The atmosphere was a little lacking for a place that was touted to be fancy, but it was by no means shabby. I guess the only down side is that it was rather expensive. I felt like a had a very good meal, good service, but overpaid just a little. I would recommend eating at this restaurant, especially if money is of no concern.

Restaurant Review: |
This is THE PLACE for GREAT FOOD in N. Az. Dario is a pleasure and the food is out of this world. Dinner for two with appetizer and dessert is about $60. Compared to what is generally available to us in N. Az here is where you need to be for a romantic dinner. Reservations are suggested and we have found that they are helpful but at times not
necessary. The Place is out of the way on Cottage in the NAU area and for the life of me I can not figure why it is not always crowded. Guess that means just more trips for those of us who truly appreciate GREAT FOOD.

If you want to go out for some great food, then this is truly the place to go. The Cottage Place is great.
I have always, always enjoyed my meals there. The food is unique and extremely tasty. They serve a full course meal with bread, soup/salad, and wonderful dishes.
They have a complete wine list as well. The service is really, really great. They completely cater to you.
The atmosphere is nice. It is in a renovated house
that give a cozy feel. The cost is fairly expensive, but not for what you get. It is truly worth it!
