Steve Kowit
teaches at Southwestern College in Chula Vista and lives in the San
Diego back-country near the Tecate Mexican border.
He is the editor of the anthology The Maverick Poets and
author of a guide to writing poetry: In the Palm of Your Hand.
His most recent poetry collection, The Dumbbell Nebula,
was published in January 2000. He
was born in Brooklyn in 1938, was active in the poetry-reading coffee
houses of the Lower East Side, and has published a dozen books since the
60s. He studied poetry with
Ned O’Gorman at Brooklyn College, Stanley Kunitz at the 92nd
Street Y, and with Robert Lowell at the New School for Social Research. |
